A colleague of mine has a 3D printer and I was fascinated by it. The ability to design your own unique things and create them without having to be super amazing at metalwork/woodwork or have hugely expensive equipment intrigued me.
So when that said colleague said that his local electronics store was having a sale and there was a big 3D printer for about £130 I jumped right in. He shipped it from Germany for me and it still turned out cheaper than buying one here.
I ended up with a Monoprice MP10 which is a 300x300x400mm 3D printer.

This has been a real learning curve to get to grips with and it seems like it’s going to be a fun ride.
I’ve created a few things, added a Raspberry Pi to the system so that I have a web page interface to control the printer using a system called OctoPrint which is a nice way of controlling your 3d printer.
I’ve created some things called ‘Maker Coins’ and they are ver very tactile. You can’t help but play with them and spin them in your fingers if you have one near. I’ve also stared designing in AutoCAD Fusion 360 which is challenging but sooooo rewarding.
I’ll post some updates as I progress through this journey.
