Daily Stand-Ups are a way of life now for Agile teams across the globe. But are they really useful?
When I first heard the term ‘scrum’ I was still playing rugby as a tight head prop. And while there are many differences between the two, some things are the same.
You CAN run into conflict in a scrum
You CAN get hurt physically or politically
You CAN win or lose the scrum
I’m really lucky in the project I’m currently working on. The scrum leader is well versed in hosting daily scrums and the team members in play are seasoned professionals. No hand bags or toys being thrown about.
But there is a conflict. Right now we are at the R&D phase, and we are desperately fighting to get a set of requirements to work too. People think they have done that, but that’s about as useful right now as knitting fog. I can see the team working really hard to define the absolute things that they need to achieve to be successful.
It’s a beautiful thing to watch from an inside, but not actually doing the work, viewpoint.
For my part I’ve moved the rugby number 8 position for this project and I’m providing guidance for the back.
